TRABUCO CANYON, CA – Navy Combat Veteran and conservative outsider Shawn Collins announced today that he will seek the Republican nomination for Congress in California’s 45th district.

A rising star in the Orange County legal community, Shawn served seven years in the Navy JAG Corps, including a tour of duty in Afghanistan in 2011 and 2012 where he survived two suicide bombing attempts. In addition to his combat experience, Shawn served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney with the Department of Justice and as a Navy JAG prosecutor. He continues to serve in the Navy Reserves.

“I have been a fighter my whole life. I grew up in a broken home in a rough neighborhood and had to fend for myself as a child. From living in eight different homes including sleeping on my uncle’s living room floor, to serving our nation in Afghanistan, fighting for what is right and just is all I know,” said Collins, who has called Orange County home for 15 years, full-time since he ended his active-duty military service in 2014.

“Washington D.C. is broken because too many of our representatives, including Katie Porter, put partisan rhetoric and petty politics ahead of serving the people who elected them. California’s 45th district deserves better. Someone who will fight for an affordable future for our hardworking residents. Someone who will stand up for our police and keep our communities safe. Someone who will answer to the voters who sent them to Congress – not the special interests. And someone who will stand up for the Constitution.”

“I am running for Congress because I have lived the American Dream, and now I want to help others live that dream as well. Over the course of this campaign, I look forward to traveling throughout our district and sharing my story. I have no doubt that the 45th district is ready for change, and I am ready to fight for it.”

Collins played basketball at Rice University and has a law degree from the University of Texas. He is active in his community, serving as a board member of the Orange County World Affairs Council. He coaches his children’s basketball and baseball teams and is an avid exercise enthusiast who has completed eight triathlons. He lives in Trabuco Canyon with his wife, Zeina, and their four children.
